A booming economy and a high demand for executives with specialized experience pushed up compensation for health payer senior leadership in 2019, although continuing sector M&A is putting some pressure on the longevity in which people stay in such jobs, recruitment experts say.
Meanwhile, those with more traditional experience in contracting, claims and other areas are finding both higher pay – and new jobs – a little harder to find.
“A vice president of digital health or a vice president of digital analytics used to enjoy total compensation that began (in the $200,000s) just a couple of years ago. Now it starts (in the $300,000s),” says David Gorstein, M.D., a recruiter with Sanford Rose Associates, which is based in Plano, Texas. Variable compensation – such as incentive bonuses – have also had to increase from around 20% of base pay to 25% or more, he adds.
