For attorneys poised to jump to another firm, a little preparation can go a long way once they hit the negotiating table to hammer out a deal with their prospective employer.

“It’s harder to negotiate a higher offer if your practice is on the decline,” said Katie Babcock, a senior legal recruiter at Sanford Rose Associates. “If you have a good trajectory or have a few good years of historical numbers, that’s obviously going to help the firm see your value going into the future.”
