Summary:

Our client is a distributer of building materials from the industry’s leading manufacturers to authorized retailers from the Great Lakes to the western Rocky Mountains. The territory continues to expand as they continuously strive to meet the demands of our customers with fifteen distribution centers and six fabrication and finishing facilities.


The VP/Director of Distribution will lead and direct all aspects of warehousing and transportation. The role is accountable for operational effectiveness in safety, service, and efficiencies. The VP/Director of Distribution is responsible for setting operational goals, designing strategies to achieve them, and executing results. A successful individual will collaborate consistently with peers and colleagues to ensure distribution is prepared to meet short and long-term business needs.


This individual will coordinate and organize the people and processes involved in all aspects of distribution. He/she will drive continuous improvement and ensure that production meets output and quality goals, while remaining within budget guidelines and safety standards. A strong foundation in systems, processes, supply chain management, quality controls, and project management is required to bring all phases of operations into alignment with company goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, audit, and support safety programs
  • Oversight of warehouse and logistics for all distribution centers
  • Manage fleet to include capital needs, maintenance, deployment, and compliance
  • Develop, evaluate and audit standard operational processes and ensure training to best practices
  • Develop and maintain supplier relations
  • Develop, maintain, report, and improve on capacity, quality, and productivity standards
  • Set and maintain operational budgets, to include staffing requirements
  • Report monthly on progress to establish goals
  • Review and approve supply and material expenditures
  • Prepare capital expenditure requirements and projections to include timeline and reporting to budget
  • Develop and mentor direct report staff to ensure succession needs
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure recruitment, onboarding, training, evaluating, and discharging compliance
  • Maintain professional growth by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies

Education / Experience:

  • Minimum BS degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or closely-related discipline (preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing or operations management (logistics/transportation preferred)
  • ASQ certification as Certified Six Sigma Black Belts (preferred, but not required)
  • Experience implementing Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma (preferred, but not required)
  • Statistical analysis development

Working Demands / Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours
  • Travel as appropriate
